Zoo Mazcota, located a few blocks up past the Pana market, provides what’s called a “Pet Passport” (Trámite de exportación de mascota). The person to see is Miguel De León Regil and he’ll get the correct paperwork and official stamps from Guatemala City in order to fly with your pet.

Great for Pet Passports

I highly recommend Zoo Mazcota for getting a “Pet Passport” (Trámite de exportación de mascota), which is needed for your pet to leave Guatemala. The person to see is Miguel De León and he’ll get the correct paperwork and official stamps from Guatemala City in order to fly with your pet.

Please note: my recommendation applies ONLY to obtaining the documents necessary to travel with your pet and it is NOT a recommendation of Miguel De León for veterinary treatments.

The worst experience of my life!

Today I had the WORST experience in customer service, ethics and professionalism. My dog is very, very sick so I took her to ZOO MASCOTA, Panajachel. After taking her there, I heard some really bad comments about this place and how they treat animals, so I asked if they could show where my dog was going to be. The so-call veterinarian there ended up screaming at me, verbally abusing me stating that I was “cheap” and practically threw my very sick dog at me. I can only imagine what they do to dogs who cannot complain. This vet was simply rude, unethical, disrespectful and abusive. It is so sad to see how vulgar a “professional” acts when confronted. If you have nothing to hide, what is the problem? Be careful where you take your pets!

Professional, Caring, High Quality
5.0

I had a great experience with Dr. Debbie and her staff at Zoo Mazcota. I had a very sick puppy. Dr. Debbie went above and beyond to help. She cooked the puppy scrambled egg to try to entice it to eat, and even went out to get fried chicken for her. She updated me regularly and even sent a video when the puppy started eating. Dr. Debbie speaks English, but the other female vet I met did not. She used her phone to explain things that I did not understand. (Yay Google translate!) They listened compassionately to my concerns and offered me many options during a difficult time.

I really appreciated the professional facilities at Zoo Mazcota. They have trained vet technicians and a computerized record keeping system. Everyone is kept up to date on the pet’s procedures, medications, and physical health. Yes, the cost for this vet office is more than others in town, but I would compare it favorably with any “first world” vet office. I will be taking all my pets to Dr. Debbie from now on!

NOTE: Dr. Debbie works in another office in Xela most days. If you really want to have her there, you must make an appointment ahead of time that agrees with her schedule. She is very busy and much in demand due to her English proficiency and lovely demeanor.
